An expanding market
Today, the production of Valtellina PGI Apples represents more than 70% of the total produced in the Lombardy region.
Since 2014, the Valtellina PGI Apples’ market has undergone exponential growth also due to the increasing number of producers who invest in the variety with the PGI classification.
Market forecasts also confirm the growing trend for organic products, which now represent almost 5% of the total produced.
In 2020, the Italian domestic channel accounted for 93.58% of the market share of Valtellina PGI Apples, while the rest was exported to other European and third countries.

Today, 218 grower members and 2 large packaging members are registered in the consortium.
The size of the apple growers is small, except for a limited number of medium-sized companies.
